Handling Last Message Display After Message Deletion in Chat

Lets suppose user sent 5 messages and deleted the last message , now when convo is fetched the last message is still the deleted message which has a deletedAt ,deletedBy field also and the text field is undefined in this last message object. We were using this lastMessage object only to render the last message in the chat list but if we delete it is causing this issue. Would like to know what we can modify in this or is it possible if we delete a message and again conversation is fetched lastMessage should be the previous message/second last message.
